1.         The Nabhmitra application recently aided fishermen during Cyclone Dana by utilizing the Vessel Communication and Support System. This initiative, from the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, provides real-time tracking of vessel positions, courses, and speeds, ensuring safe returns to shore during adverse weather. Employing indigenous transponder technology, Nabhmitra enables two-way communication beyond mobile coverage, a significant advancement from the traditional reliance on Very High Frequency radio waves and phone calls, which struggled to locate boats in distant waters. Developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and implemented through NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL), this application enhances safety for fishermen operating in challenging conditions.

2.         In 2024, Spanish footballers Rodri and Aitana Bonmatí won the Ballon d'Or awards for the best male and female players, respectively. Rodri, playing for Manchester City, claimed his first Ballon d'Or, becoming the first Spanish man to win since 1960. Aitana Bonmatí, from FC Barcelona, successfully defended her title in women's football. Lionel Messi holds the record for the most Ballon d'Or awards with eight, while Cristiano Ronaldo has won it five times. Additional awards included Real Madrid as Men's Club of the Year and FC Barcelona as Women's Club of the Year. The Ballon d'Or, presented by France Football since 1956, recognizes the best-performing player from the previous season.

3.         The Supreme Court recently clarified that medical professionals should not be deemed liable for negligence solely based on unsuccessful treatment outcomes. Medical negligence, or malpractice, occurs when a healthcare provider fails to meet the established standard of care, resulting in patient harm. The Court emphasized that a doctor can only be held liable if there is evidence of a lack of necessary skill in their practice. The doctrine of "Res Ipsa Loquitur," which suggests negligence is self-evident, does not apply in these circumstances. The bench reiterated that a negative medical outcome does not inherently indicate negligence, highlighting the need for clear evidence to establish liability.

4.         The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) have signed an agreement to conduct experiments for the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS), planned for development between 2028 and 2035. This collaboration aligns with the DBT's BIOE3 initiative aimed at promoting bio-manufacturing in India, with a projected bio-economy worth USD 300 billion by 2030. The MoU will address challenges in space missions, such as nutrient availability, food preservation, and health hazards from microgravity and radiation. Potential experiments include studying muscle loss in astronauts, exploring nutrient-rich algae, and assessing radiation effects. The BAS, India's proposed space station, will feature five modules, operate at 400–450 km altitude, and support scientific research and international collaboration.

5.         The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a warning about illegal payment gateways, such as PeacePay and RTX Pay, set up by transnational cybercriminals utilizing mule bank accounts for money laundering. Mule accounts facilitate illegal activities, with money mules transferring illicitly acquired funds on behalf of others. Cybercriminals exploit shell companies and individual accounts as mule accounts, taking advantage of banks' bulk payout facilities, which enable multiple payments to various beneficiaries in a single transaction. While shell companies themselves aren't always illegal, they can be misused to obscure ownership from law enforcement and the public, thus facilitating illicit financial operations.
